The first in Jennifer Probst's new series is something a bit different for me, I don't normally go in for these paranormal style romance novels but you've got to try something new every now again, right?
Searching for Someday has a fairly standard plot; unlucky in love Kate has a gift bringing other people together but hasn't found romance herself. Enter Slade, a man on a mission determined to prove that Kate's business, and love itself, is a hoax. Considering the plot and overarching character designs are somewhat unoriginal, Probst's book is a fun and entertaining read.
New to the paranormal romance world I found Searching for Someday was a great place to start. The magic element isn't overdone and added a nice dimension to Kate, preventing her from being a cloying overly romantic ingénue. Slade too could have easily been an overbearing, pessimistic bore but Probst, once again, finds a nice balance and lends him some softer edges. I really enjoyed the slow burn aspect of this romance, the build up was well done and led to some particularly steamy scenes. Kate and Slade present a enjoyable couple with some excellent dialogue that gave me the odd laugh out loud moment. The cast of supporting characters, especially Kate's colleagues were all enjoyable too and I look forward to reading their inevitable spinoffs.
My only real complaint with the novel is the epilogue, which I found to be a bit overdone for my liking - but then again, I'm not really a fan of the epilogue in general. Overall, I found the book to be an entertaining, sweet, uncomplicated romance - a nice introduction to a new sub-genre.
